Watch Out for Fake Anti-Virus Software
One of the most successful social engineering attacks to appear recently is FakeAV (fake anti-virus software). Criminals are creating authentic-looking copies of Windows screens and notices that make users believe their machine is infected with viruses and offer an anti-virus program to help remove the infection. If you observe a Windows page that states you have a virus or other computer-related issue, contact your department’s information technology department before clicking any links. Do you have ideas that should be shared as security tips of the
week? If so, send them to UnivIT_SP@ur.rochester.edu.
