17-Year-Old Virtuoso Wins Piano Competition
Following a performance of the Allegro ma non tanto movement from Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 3 in D Minor with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Allen Yuan of Farmington Hills, Mich., was awarded the Gold Medal in the 2010 Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition.
Rochester Baby Lab Wins Award
Researchers from the Rochester Baby Lab have received the Cognitive Science Society’s prize for the best computational cognitive modeling work in perception and action. Rochester graduate student Celeste Kidd will present the winning paper on behalf of herself, lab director Richard Aslin, and MIT graduate student Steven Piantadosi at the society's annual conference in Portland, Ore.
T. Rowe Price Holds 'Hot Spot,' Raffle
T. Rowe Price, one of the investment providers under the University’s retirement program, will set up a "Hot Spot" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, in the House of Six Nations cafeteria in the Medical Center. A specialist will be available to answer questions regarding T. Rowe Price accounts. Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle and win a prize. UHS Hosts Garage Sale this Week
University Health Service will hold a University-wide garage sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. August 10, 11, and 12, in the basement of the UHS River Campus Building, 738 Library Rd., on Susan B. Anthony Circle. Purchases require a 312 Requisition, and UHS asks that purchases be taken away as soon as possible. Call River Campus Parking at 275-3983 to arrange parking for pick-up. Interested buyers can view the more than 100 items—including exam room and medical office supplies, desks, shelves, files, and chairs—outside the scheduled sale hours by appointment only.
