Scientists Pinpoint Early Steps of Muscular Dystrophy
Nearly two decades after they identified the specific genetic flaw that causes a common type of muscular dystrophy, scientists believe they have figured out how that flaw brings about the disease. The finding by an international team of researchers, including scientists at Rochester, settles a longstanding question about the roots of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy.

Students Experience Electoral Process as Poll Workers
Thanks to a grant from the federal
Election Assistance Commission through the Help America Vote Act,
Rochester undergraduates will have the opportunity to participate
directly in the electoral process this November by working as college
poll inspectors.

The Commons Grand Opening is Monday
The Commons, the newly renovated food court in Wilson Commons, will be open on Monday, Aug. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. President Seligman will cut the ribbon at a grand opening celebration at noon, and visitors will have the opportunity to sample some of The Commons menu beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Lessons Offered at Eastman Community Music School
The Eastman Community Music School’s preparatory and adult education programs have been part of the Eastman School from its beginning. Local television and radio spots currently running point out the advantages of studying at ECMS. Information on lessons, classes, and ensembles is available at www.esm.rochester.edu/community. Habitat for Humanity Volunteers Sought
