Message to the University Community from President Joel Seligman
It is with sadness that I inform you of
the death of one of our graduate students, Kurt Bertram, of the
Department of Environmental Medicine. He was found yesterday in his
Rochester apartment. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of his
death.
Kurt received a master’s degree this
spring and was about to begin Ph.D. studies in the Toxicology Training
Program.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kurt’s family, friends, and colleagues at this time.
Chaplain Laurie Tiberi shared with me
that Kurt was very involved in the Protestant Chapel Community, a
regular at worship services. “We help out at a soup kitchen once a
month, and Kurt was nearly always there,” she said. “Unlike most
students, he loved running the big old dishwasher. Kurt was a quiet,
sweet, kind young man.”
When details about a funeral or memorial
service are known, we will share them with the University community.
The University flag will be lowered at that time.
