Research Funding Climbs to Historic Levels
Total research funding to the University jumped by 18 percent in 2010 to $415 million—an increase of more than $64 million over the previous year and an amount that is double what the University received 11 years ago. “This growth in research funding is extraordinary, particularly given the economic climate in which it occurred,” President Seligman said. “It is a testament to not only the talent of the University’s scientific community, but it also represents an affirmation of the strategic investments in research infrastructure made by this institution with public and private support.”

Clothesline Festival Features Art, Crafts, Family Fun
The 54th M&T Bank Clothesline Festival will be held rain or shine this weekend at the Memorial Art Gallery. The festival, which is the gallery's biggest fundraiser, showcases original work by more than 400 regional artists. The event also includes live entertainment, food, and family art activities. Admission is $5. Children under 10 are free.

Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Public Market
The City of Rochester and the Medical Center will sponsor the second annual Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St. The fair kicks off Rochester Women’s Health Week, Sept. 11 to 18.

Symposium Planned on Deep Brain Stimulation
Registration is open through Friday, Oct. 1, for the upcoming symposium, "Deep Brain Stimulation: Motor Systems and Beyond." The event starts at noon on Thursday, Oct. 7, and continues Friday, Oct. 8, at the Memorial Art Gallery. The symposium is sponsored by the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Del Monte Neuromedicine Institute, Silvio O. Conte Center, and the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology. Biometric Screenings Offered Sept. 15
Biometric screenings will be available by appointment only at no cost for regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the School of Nursing in Helen Wood Hall. Employees may receive one biometric screening per calendar year. Spouses and domestic partners enrolled in a University health care plan are also eligible. To schedule an appointment, contact Christine Withers at 273-2360 or Christine_Withers@urmc.rochester.edu.
