News and Announcements

Sugary Drinks a Major Culprit in Childhood Obesity
Empty calories now make up about 40 percent of the energy consumed by children in the United States, according to new research from the Medical Center. A large percentage of those empty calories come from sugar-sweetened drinks, such as fruit juice and soda, which have little to no nutritional value.

AlertUR Test is Thursday
The biannual test of the University’s emergency notification system, AlertUR, is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 7, at 6:15 p.m. The system is designed to alert students, faculty, and staff by text message, e-mail, or other methods during an emergency. This will be the first test for many faculty and staff who are now covered by AlertUR. The test will not disrupt scheduled activities. The current emergency systems within the Medical Center will continue to cover faculty and staff there. Before the test, check that your contact information is accurate and complete. Go to and sign in with your NetID and password to verify your best contact information.
