Edward Schwarz to Head Center for Musculoskeletal Research
Edward Schwarz, the Burton Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, has been appointed to the role of director of the Center for Musculoskeletal Research. Schwarz replaces Regis O’Keefe, chair of the Department of Orthopaedics, who remains chair but was recently named associate dean for clinical affairs at the Medical Center.

History of Heavy Metal Hits the Airwaves
Josef Hanson, manager of music performance programs in the College’s Department of Music, is scheduled to discuss his course “High Voltage: Heavy Metal Music and its History” on WBER FM 90.5 radio today around 8:15 a.m. Listen online.

Video: A Cappella Showcase
The YellowJackets’ passion for sharing music with new audiences led them to Rochester’s World of Inquiry School where they spent months teaching the students to sing a cappella. The after-school program led to a musical showcase last weekend on the stage of Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre where the YellowJackets shared the spotlight with fellow Sing Off competitors Delilah and Pentatonix, as well as their proteges from World of Inquiry. Have Type 2 Diabetes and Want to Lose Weight?
The Healthy Living Center at the University has a research study in which it will offer guidance on weight loss through diet and physical activity. Participants will be paid up to $100 for completing all study activities over a six-month period. Call 530-2020 to learn more.

As Doctors Use More Devices, Potential for Distraction Grows
Hospitals and doctors’ offices, hoping to curb medical error, have invested heavily to put computers, smartphones, and other devices into the hands of medical staff for instant access to patient data, drug information and case studies. “You walk around the hospital, and what you see is not funny,” said Peter Papadakos, an anesthesiologist and director of critical care at the Medical Center, who added that he had seen nurses, doctors, and other staff members glued to their phones, computers, and iPads.
