Medical Center Breaks Ground on New Golisano Children’s Hospital
After five years of planning, including substantial input from children and families, the University made history yesterday as it broke ground on its largest capital project ever—the new Golisano Children's Hospital. “This is a proud day, when we can start building a world-class children's hospital for our region's children and families,” President Joel Seligman said. “We have already been delivering outstanding patient care, and this new facility is going to make Rochester a destination for pediatric care across upstate New York and the nation.”  (Photo by Ken Huth) Read more about the event and see a video from the ceremony.

Rochester in the News
Technology Review (Sept. 10)
Artificial Intelligence, Powered by Many Humans
Personal assistants such as Apple's Siri may be useful, but they are still far from matching the smarts and conversational skills of a real person. University researchers have demonstrated a new, potentially better approach that creates a smart artificial chat partner from fleeting contributions from many crowdsourced workers.

Democrat and Chronicle (Sept. 8)
Big Donation Helps Tiny Patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital
A $5 million gift will help the littlest patients at the new Golisano Children’s Hospital. The donation from Georgia Gosnell will go to the 60-bed, newly renamed Gosnell Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. “We view this with gratitude and appreciate the support for what we’re doing,” said neonatologist Patricia Chess, an associate professor of pediatrics. “We’re one of those places no one wants to use our services, but it’s good to know we’re there when you need it.”
