Eastman School Alumni Earn Grammy Nominations
Eastman School graduate Robert (Bob) Ludwig ’66E, ’01E (MM) received four nominations and alumni Renee Fleming ’83E (MM), Bill Cunliffe ’81E (MM), and Gene Scheer ’81E (MM), ’82E (MM) also were nominated in the 55th Annual Grammy Awards competition. Read more...

Online Learning Symposium: An Open Faculty Forum
Faculty are invited to the third part of an ongoing discussion on online education and the use of digital media in learning at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in Sloan Auditorium, Goergen Hall 101. University Mourns the Loss of Sayeeda Zain
University flags will be lowered Wednesday, Dec. 12, in memory of Sayeeda Zain, associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, who died Nov. 24. A coinventor on six U.S. patents (and several foreign ones), Zain’s research focused on gene expression in Alzheimer’s and the molecular mechanisms of metastasis. Read more...
Poster Session Highlights Workshop Research
Workshop Leaders from a variety of departments will hold a poster session today on the research they’ve done this semester in workshop education. The session, which will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Green Carpet Lounge in Hutchison Hall, is coordinated by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Center for Workshop Education.
High Tech Rochester Starts New Accelerator Program
Modeled after the highly successful Lean LaunchPad program developed at Stanford University and funded locally by a grant from the Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation, the High Tech Rochester LaunchPad is accepting applications. The program is for software and web-based teams and entrepreneurs developing new software applications for new media such as internet-based systems, mobile apps, and enterprise software products. Interfaith Chapel Hosts Spiritual Exercises
The Interfaith Chapel will offer three events next week intended to calm and sharpen the mind and reduce
stress. On Tuesday, Dec. 11, there will be an interfaith Taize Service—a
candlelit service of chanting, silence, and prayer representing five
major world religions. The event takes place in the Interfaith Chapel
Sanctuary. On Wednesday, Dec. 12, walk the labyrinth on the river level
of the Interfaith Chapel. The final event, on Thursday, Dec. 13, will
feature silent Zen meditation, both walking and sitting in the
sanctuary. All events begin at 9:30 p.m. Refreshments will be
