Pioneer in Infectious Disease Research Remembered
Caroline (Caren) Breese Hall, an internationally recognized expert in pediatric infectious diseases, died at home Dec. 10. A professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical Center, Hall was widely recognized for her contributions and her devotion to science, clinical care, and teaching. University flags will be lowered Dec. 18 in her honor. Read more...

Students and doctors participating in UR Street Outreach, the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s street medicine program, say they get back much more than they give to the homeless population they serve. Talk: ‘How Technology Could Transform Clinical Trials’
Ray Dorsey, associate professor of neurology at Johns Hopkins, will present “How Technology Could Transform Clinical Trials” at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Whipple Auditorium (2-6424), Medical Center. The talk is part of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute Seminar Series.

Upstate Stem Cell cGMP Facility Opens
“One of the critical barriers to moving cell-based therapies into clinical trials is the requirement that these cells be manufactured in a facility that meets strict federal requirements,” Stephen Dewhurst, Dean’s Professor and chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and author of the state grant application, said. “Without this resource, much of this science gets stuck in the lab.”
