Landmark Study Reports on New Therapy That Prevents Heart Failure
A landmark study led by Arthur Moss, professor of medicine at the Medical Center, reports that patients who had a cardiac resynchronization device combined with a defibrillator (CRT-D) implanted had a 34 percent reduction in their risk of death or heart failure when compared to patients receiving only an implanted cardiac defibrillator (ICD). Frank Buff, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, Dies at 85
Frank Buff, emeritus professor of chemistry, died in Rochester on July 1 at the age of 85. In 1995, Buff’s work was included among the 1,000 most influential papers of the 20th century as chosen by the American Physical Society and the American Institute of Physics. The University flag will be lowered today in his honor.

Latino Cultural Fair Seeking Display Items
The Latino Professional Alliance is seeking display items for the third annual Latino Cultural Fair to be held from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Sarah Flaum Atrium in the School of Medicine and Dentistry.  Artwork, photographs, instruments, and books or games representing Latin and Spanish countries and traditions will be accepted. For more information, call 276-3521 or e-mail Berlin Bermudez or Jeanette Colby.

Laser Vision Correction Center Offers LASIK Seminar
The Laser Vision Center will hold a free seminar about LASIK eye surgery at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Seminars are held at 100 Meridian Centre, Suite 125. Reservations are requested. For more information, call 273-2020 or visit the Strong Vision Web site.
