Erroneous Letter Sent From Aetna
Aetna Health Plan notified the University late this morning that Strong Memorial Hospital’s Provider Pin ID number was inadvertently terminated in Aetna’s system between May 6 and May 10 due to a computer error. As a result, letters were generated to Aetna subscribers informing them that Strong Memorial Hospital was no longer an Aetna participating provider hospital. Aetna Health Plan members should be assured that Strong Memorial Hospital is a participating provider in Aetna’s network.

Aetna assured the University that the system has been corrected and that the company will reprocess all claims that had been denied due to the computer error.  In addition, Aetna has told the University it will be sending a follow-up letter out in the next few days to all affected Aetna members to explain in more detail the effects of the temporary system error and to assure its customers that the problem has been corrected.
