Sage
Art Center is located on the north end of River Campus between Anderson
and Wilder residential halls. The expansive and adjoining studio
spaces of Sage are conducive to studio production that recognizes
the importance of peer influence and invites interdisciplinary explorations.
Undergraduate studio assistants monitor the spaces, making them
available to currently enrolled students in the evenings and on
weekends. A full-time studio technician provides students with technical
assistance, maintains equipment, and assures a clean and safe working
environment.
The AS IS Gallery,
situated at the entrance of Sage Art Center, presents an ongoing
exhibition of current work from all studio courses. The painting,
sculpture, drawing and multimedia studios take advantage of the
Center's glass exterior walls, which not only provide natural light
but create a sense of openness. The studios for studio majors occupy
a large part of the building's perimeter. Sage maintains several
safe, ventilated, and well-equipped labs. A photography lab, a wood
shop, and a metal shop, are located at the core of the building;
adjacent to them are a small seminar space, a digital sound editing
suite, and a plaster and clay working area. A well-equipped computer
lab and both digital and analogue editing suites are found on the
upper level as well. The lower level of Sage houses storage areas,
lockers, faculty studios, and two seminar spaces, the larger of
which can be converted into a performance art space or video studio.
