The
University of Rochester and Howard
University are preparing two interdisciplinary conferences on the
public and private life of Frederick Douglass.
The 2003 Frederick Douglass Conference will take place at the University of Rochester, March 27-29, 2003, and at Howard University November 6-7, 2003.
The conferences provide a unique opportunity for scholars to raise historical, psychological, philosophical, and cultural questions touching upon Frederick Douglass and his world.
The conference objectives are to locate Douglass in the nineteenth century world of cultural and political reform; to highlight and re-assess his performance in the many roles he occupied during a long life of activism and service.
