Professor of French

Ph.D., Cornell University 1984.

Research interests include modern French literature and literary theory, and feminist theory, film theory and visual analysis, and cultural studies. She is the author of Marguerite Duras: Writing on the Body (1986), and co-editor, with Constance Penley, of Male Trouble (1993). She is completing a book, High Contrast: Race and Gender in Contemporary Cinema, which analyzes representations of sexual and social difference in popular film.
