about malawi

The Republic of Malawi is located in southeastern Africa and is roughly the size of Pennsylvania. Although it is governed by a stable democracy, Malawi's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ranks 140th out of the 179 countries surveyed by the International Monetary Fund. Malawi's economy is heavily dependent on agriculture and its main exports are tobacco, tea and sugar. Like many countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Malawi suffers from an inconsistent food supply, lack of potable water, high orphan rate, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. Dire as the situation may seem, Malawi is slowly building infrastructure to promote trade and investment.
