Undergraduate Research Award

The Department of Anthropology is pleased to announce the Undergraduate Research Award for participants on the Malawi Immersion Seminar.

The award is intended to promote original undergraduate research in anthropology during studies abroad. The award provides up to $400 for projects conducted by students participating in research projects during the Malawi Immersion Seminar each summer. All participating students are eligible to apply regardless of major field of study. Three awards are reserved for anthropology majors. The award money must be used towards the cost of the seminar.


  • The award is open to all undergraduate participants.
  • Applicants must be registered for the Malawi Immersion Seminar and must have purchased their airline ticket.
  • Awardees will present their research project and findings at the African Livelihoods Research Symposium in the next spring semester following the seminar.
  • Recipients of this award must submit a copy of their final project to the Department of Anthropology.
