Checklist for Tutors

checklist

I have evaluated my motives, goals and expectations.

I have chosen a program that I can be committed to.

I am aware of the socioeconomic background of Rochester, NY and the school/site where I will be working.

I am aware of what cross cultural communication and awareness entail.

I am aware of the complexities of public education and have considered how it will affect my time with students.

I am armed with various tutoring and mentoring tips in the following areas: general knowledge, reading, play, bullying, safety, and burnout.

I know who to contact if I have any questions, problems and/or concerns.

I realize that tutoring and mentoring is an ongoing learning process.

I am committed to having fun and learning with RCSD students!

Checklist/Suggestions for coordinators

I have received pertinent material from my program's previous coordinator.

I have spoken with the staff at the Community Service Network and/or the Rochester Center for Community Leadership.

I have been in contact with the pricipal of the school or the director of the site.

I have updated the program's information on the Campus Club Connection page and this site.

I have reserved a table at the Student Activities Fair.

If my program requires the use of the CSN van, I have made reservations. (Fill out this form.)

I have set up a preliminary interest meeting for the start of the semester.

I have read through this site (and if I have feedback I have voiced it) and have told my tutors to do the same.

I have information about the program and application forms if necessary for prospective tutors.

I have figured out the logistics of scheduling and transportation for all tutors.

I have set up one or two training sessions and/or meetings throughout the semester. Tutors in the past have expressed strong interest in interactive days of training as a means to enhance their effectiveness and comfort level.

I send out a weekly email reminding tutors about their commitment, and any other information (i.e. special programs or events at your site)

I have thought about how to end the semester involvement, how to leave the students with the right message, that you are leaving because of school timing.

I have chosen someone to run the program after I leave and have mentored them in how to do so.
