UR Programs

– BADEN STREET –
This program has been running since 2005. Baden Street is a non-profit community organization that holds after school enrichment programs. They work with kids, ages 8-17, usually athletes, Monday evenings 5:15-7:30. We work one to one with a youth for an hour and then gather in a group project or game. Students carpool with their own vehicles.

N umbers are key- the more volunteers, the more successful the program
- Who: Volunteers who are willing to make a weekly commitment (a minimum of 3 hours) to tutor, listen, guide and serve as a role-model to younger children.
- Where: 48 Cameron Street (3 blocks away from School 30) downtown Rochester
- When: Monday-Thursday 2:30-5:30 or 3:30 to 5:30
- How: Students can carpool, take their own personal vehicle or use the CSN van to drive to the facility (approx. a 10 minute drive from campus)

– JUMPSTART –
Jumpstart Rochester began in 2003, operating out of the University of Rochester. Jumpstart is a national non-profit, early education organization that has a mission to increase school success in young children, family involvement and future teachers, one child at a time. The program operates 57 sites throughout the nation, each supervised by a highly skilled site manager. The commitment level is high, about 300 hours a year, which also come with work-study pay and an end of the year stipend. Students take public transportation or carpool.

– PARTNERS IN READING –
This student managed program began in 1996. Partners in Reading is dedicated, by means of tutoring, to aiding elementary school children in the process of learning to read. Their long standing partnership with school No. 33 has allowed for much growth and success. They work with elementary school students, in English-speaking or Spanish-speaking classrooms, every Friday from 1:00-3:00 PM. CSN vans or private cars are used for transportation.

– PROJECT CARE –
Started in 2005 UR undergraduates, the Rochester City School District and EnCompass formed Project CARE (Coaches Are Role models for Empowerment). As a CARE coach, you will gain valuable experience and satisfaction working with a child to support learning and life skills. With a commitment of 2-4 hrs/wk. you can empower a child for success they might never know without your assistance. Students take public transportation, the UR shuttle or carpool.

– URBAN CHOICE CHARTER SCHOOL –
The partnership with Urban Choice Charter school began in 2006. Volunteers are generally given a small group of students to help with a specific assignment or project. Subjects vary depending on the day's activities. With an open and fluid learning environment, there is structure and freedom to pursue individuals' interests with students. Students carpool.

– UR CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP: KIDS 2 KOLLEGE –
Kids 2 Kollege (K2K) is a mentoring program sponsored by students at the University of Rochester to give school-aged children in the surrounding Rochester community a perspective of college life and to provide them with many skills and life values necessary to create and achieve higher goals throughout their life. – UR EDUCATION ALLIANCE –
The Alliance began in 2006. As a student run umbrella organization with the Community Service Network, it strives to build cohesive partnership between groups working with urban education and youth, promote activism, and create cross boundary projects in the city of Rochester. Students discuss shared issues, problems, interests, future training or lectures, resources and ultimately coordinating projects to make a larger impact.
