Study and Work Abroad

Many students pursue a semester or a year studying abroad to complement their study of anthropology. Some majors seek employment abroad after graduation or apply for a Fulbright to teach English or conduct research overseas.

Fulbright Fellowships  
Fulbright fellowships are funded by the U.S. Department of State and fund scholarly research or English teaching assistantships all over the world. Anthropology majors have been awarded Fulbright fellowships to Peru, Bangladesh, Russia, Nepal, and elsewhere.

Teach Abroad
A site for people who wish to investigate teaching abroad independently, rather than registering with an agency. Features links to international embassies, information on current job listings (complete with contact information), travel information. Includes both volunteer and paid positions. Links to universities, career-guidance web sites, language schools, and environmental field schools.

Overseas Jobs
A free website for job seekers interested in international jobs. Specializes in American companies with overseas offices.

International Jobs
Provides listings for international jobs in areas related to government, development, education, and foreign policy, among other fields.

Anthrosource
The main database for journal articles published by the American Anthropological Association. Access is available through the University of Rochester library server.

Cultural Anthropology Online
The website for the Society of Cultural Anthropology, the largest group within the American Anthropological Association and publisher of the journal, Cultural Anthropology.

Google Scholar
A powerful search engine for articles and books that also allows you to set up alerts to be notified by email of articles appearing with specified keywords. Access to the articles may require you to log in to the University server.
