NEW INTRODUCTORY COURSE SEQUENCE
BIO 112 -113 Perspectives in Biology I & II, is offered in addition to BIO 110-111 Principles of Biology I & II. BIO 112 is open only to first semester freshman. Both course sequences are designed to prepare students who intend to major or minor in biology and prepare students for BIO 198, Genetics, (a prerequisite for most upper level courses in biology) taken in the fall of the sophomore year. BIO 115 Gene Structure and Function, are no longer offered.
The lecture course BIO 250 Biochemistry is available for sophomores and a
companion 1-credit laboratory, BIO 151, is also available. NOTE: We are keeping the BIO 250 course number
and not changing it to BIO 150.
The sophomore level lecture course, BIO 199 Molecular Cell Biology, and companion laboratory,
BIO 199L, are no longer offered. Molecular Cell Biology are available at the junior-senior
level as BIO 210.
New AP placement policy for students entering in Fall 2005
Incoming students with scores of 4 or 5 on Advanced Placement Biology exams will receive 4 general elective credits but no credit towards the biology major or minor. Students will retain these general elective credits regardless of the Biology courses they take. NOTE: Biology majors/minors who declared prior to fall 2005 follow a different policy - please see a biology advisor.
