  Minor in Biology

Approval of courses chosen for the minor is granted by the Director of Undergraduate Affairs of the Department of Biology, who will also serve as the student's advisor. At least one half of the Biology courses must be taken at the University of Rochester.

  To Declare a Minor in Biology

Students should first see Marianne Arcoraci in the Biology Department Office, Hutchison 402F, to prepare the preliminary paperwork and to be assigned an advisor.

  I. INTRODUCTORY COURSES 3 courses, 12 credits  
 
1. BIO 110 Principles of Biology I (4 cr) or BIO 112 Perspectives in Biology I (4 cr)
  
   There is no companion laboratory, however, note co-registration in a 2 hour workshop.
 
2. BIO 111 Principles of Biology II (4 cr) or BIO 113 Perspectives in Biology II (4 cr)
    BIO 111L  Introductory Biology Lab (1 cr) is the companion laboratory for BIO  111
    BIO 113L  Perspectives in Biology Lab (1 cr) is the companion laboratory for BIO  113
 
3. BIO 198 Principles of Genetics (4 cr)
   BIO 198L Principles of Genetics Lab (1 cr) is the companion laboratory for BIO 198.
     
   
 
II. ADVANCED COURSES: 2 courses (8 credits)		  
 

These courses are to be selected from any of those offered through the Undergraduate Program in Biology and Medicine and approved by the program director. No independent study course (391 or 395) may be counted towards the Minor in Biology.

Advanced Biology courses must be 200-level or higher.

*Additional courses in the allied fields of chemistry, physics and mathematics are required to meet admissions requirements for medical school.

Approval of courses chosen for the minor is granted by minor track advisor, Dr. Anthony Olek. At least one half of the five Biology courses must be taken at the University of Rochester.

Biology minors are required to complete five Biology/UPBM courses.

Minors must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the required Biology/UPBM courses excluding Allied Fields courses.

No more than a 1 course overlap with the student's major is allowed.
