The Department of Biology and the nearby University of Rochester Medical Center offer many opportunities for undergraduate research both during the summer and the academic year. Interested students are encouraged to talk to faculty teaching their courses, advisors of the intended major and other students. Additional information is available from the Undergraduate Program in Biology and Medicine (UPBM).
A good way to meet peers and do networking is to join the Society for Undergraduate Biologists (SUBS).
The de Kiewiet Summer Research Fellowship program is a competitive undergraduate research program open to students during the summer between the junior and senior years. Many students do undergraduate research in biology and medicine during the academic year in the context of an independent research (395) course. To get a sense of the kind of research done by these students, you can view lists of previous research topics.
Important dates and deadlines and other undergraduate research opportunities can be found in the UPBM e-newsletter.
