Day 3

Had I known!

This has become a monster project, especialy as I seem to be doing it solo. How many tons of soil have I excavated and carted away!

And the whole thing keeps on seeming to grow in scale...

I am officially insane for having taken this on but, alas...

there's no turning back...

The big event of the day was:

The Gravel and Sand Man Cometh:

He barely managed to manoeuvre his way in (and out of) the drive-- only marginal damage done to the property in the process --

he came, dumped his load,

and went -- (so to speak)...this does not look like 5 cubic yards to me (but I'm assured it is).

He returned later in the day with with a load of sand:

La Porch was not amused by these goings on.

By lunchtime, the major patio area had been cleared. The pathways were the next to be attacked:

That took the rest of the day.

I did save some all of the old flagstones, especially the millstone (which Porch couldn't quite get her mind around):

And by the end of the day, not only had the goal been met:

but I'd also decided to add a small satellite circular paved area at the end of the path -- I didn't quite finish it before throwing in the towel for the day:
