David Adjmi was awarded the Kesselring Fellowship for 2008-9. A collection of his work, Stunning and Other Plays, will be published by TCG in spring 2010. The Evildoers was developed at MCC, the Royal Court (UK), and Sundance; it received its world premiere in January 2008 at Yale Repertory Theatre. Stunning was developed at NYTW and Manhattan Theatre Club, and it was published in the September issue of American Theatre. The play premiered at Woolly Mammoth Theatre and is nominated for 5 Helen Hayes Awards including the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play. Stunning received a New York premiere at Lincoln Center Theatre in 2009. Elective Affinities premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company, London and will receive a New York premiere in 2009, starring Marian Seldes. Other plays include Marie Antoinette (workshops: JAW/West Fest at Portland Center Stage, Soho Rep’s W/D Lab Series, Sundance Residency at the Public/NYSF, Goodman Theatre New Stages Series), Caligula (Soho Rep’s Studio Series), Strange Attractors (Empty Space, dir. Chay Yew), Woody Allen’s Fall Project and 3C. In addition to these plays, David is developing a screenplay based on A.M. Homes’s novel Music for Torching for director Steven Shainberg (Secretary, Fur) and Muse Films.
David has received commissions from Lincoln Center, the Royal Court, Yale Rep and Berkeley Rep, the Kesselring Prize, Helen Merill Award, a McKnight Advancement Grant, the Marian Seldes-Garson Kanin Award, a Jerome Fellowship, a Royal Court International Residency, the George C. Wolfe/Laura Pels Award, Jon Robin Baitz’s Ovid Grant for New Writing, a Soho Rep W/D fellowship, a NYTW/Dartmouth Residency, the Lecomte du Nouy Award, the Cherry Lane Mentor Project Fellowship (w. Craig Lucas), an Atlantic Center for the Arts residency (w. Paula Vogel), a Minnesota State Arts Board grant, and multiple fellowships from The MacDowell Colony. He recently served as a panelist for the NEA. David is a member of New Dramatists, the Dramatists Guild, MCC Playwrights Coalition, Rising Phoenix Rep and Vinegar Tom Players. He attended Sarah Lawrence College, the Iowa Playwrights Workshop, and the American Playwrights Program at the Juilliard School.
