David Melville Kennedy

David Kennedy is the newly appointed Associate Artistic Director of Westport Country Playhouse. From 2004 to 2008, he was the Associate Artistic Director of Dallas Theater Center where he directed The Violet Hour, I Am My Own Wife, Thom Pain (based on nothing), Moonlight and Magnolias, Glengarry Glen Ross, and The Misanthrope, as well as readings of new plays by Denis Johnson, Peter Morris, and Marcus Gardley. David is also the founding Artistic Director of Toronto’s The Lunar Society, for whom he most recently wrote and directed Brighter than the Light of the Sun, a co-production with Nova Scotia’s Ship’s Company Theatre. Other places he’s worked include Clarence Brown Theatre Company, Ensemble Company for the Performing Arts in New Haven (also artistic director), Hangar Theatre, Kitchen Dog Theater (Dallas), The Old Globe Theatre’s Graduate Conservatory, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Prospect Theater Company, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, 78th Street Theatre Lab, and for Dodger Theatricals/The Araca Group as the assistant director on the Tony-Award winning musical, Urinetown. In addition, he has been an artist in residence and/or guest lecturer at Georgia College & State University, Southern Methodist University, and Towson University. David is a former Phil Killian Fellow at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, a Drama League Directing Fellow, and a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.
