The Gollin Film Festival is a contest for students at the University of Rochester. The festival, in its fourth year is open to all currently enrolled undergraduate students at the University and is sponsored by the Film and Media Studies Program. The Gollin Film Festival, named in honor of Professor Emeritus of English Richard Gollin, gives University of Rochester undergraduates the chance to gain recognition and present their works to a wide audience.
Each student may submit up to two films created since enrolling at the University. Acceptable formats include mini-DV, VHS, DVD, and 16mm. Digital pieces are accepted on CD-R or Macintosh compatible DVD, excluding DVD+R. Students must make sure their work is compatible with most DVD players. There is no limit on length, but for first viewing, media should be cued to the strongest two to three minutes.
A panel of faculty members associated with the Film and Media Studies Program judges the films. Cash prizes are awarded to the first, second, and third place winners during a screening of the winning films at the end of the academic year. Films receiving honorable mention are also screened during the festival.
