The University of Rochester's Department of History is committed to teaching and scholarship and to intellectual rigor in the context of close attention to students' needs and interests. On October 20, 2012 the Department of History will celebrate the life of the late Professor Lynn Gordon with a symposium in her honor titled "Women, Professions, and Politics." The symposium will feature three panels moderated by faculty from the History Department. At 11am on the following day, October 21, a memorial service will take place at the University of Rochester Interfaith Chapel. Family and friends are invited to attend. The Reginald Zelnik Book Prize in History, established in 2009 and sponsored by the Institute of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, is awarded annually for an outstanding monograph published on Russia, Eastern Europe or Eurasia in the field of history in the previous calendar year.
