University of Rochester

Activities for the Undergraduate Community

We welcome any undergraduates interested in history to participate in the social and intellectual life of the Department. Below are a few of the activities we sponsor:

  • The Undergraduate History Council, an organization run exclusively by and for students, holds several events throughout the school year. For information about the Council's regular meeting times and upcoming events, visit their website or contact history.department@rochester.edu.
  • The Department Lounge, located in Room 370 Rush Rhees Library, is a center for students to mingle with each other and with Department faculty. Open Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm, it is equipped with outlets for laptop computers and a small reference collection. Students are invited to use the lounge to eat bag lunches, work, meet with friends and advisers, or take a break.
  • The Department's endowed lecture series, the Verne Moore Lectures, is open to all members of the University community, as are other talks throughout the year. Check the Department events calendar for more information.
  • The Department sponsors a chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society. A notice with details about eligibility is put out each Fall and Spring semester.
