Undergraduate Council in Religion and Classics

The Undergraduate Religion and Classics Council is a student association designed to promote student and faculty interaction beyond the classroom setting. The involvement of students in the Department of Religion and Classics is an essential aspect of its continual success, since the Department thrives on lively interaction among students and faculty. The Religion and Classics Department plays a vital role in teaching students that cultural diversity is very much part of campus life as well as our larger society. A goal of the Council is to help create a comfortable atmosphere to encourage further communication among its students and professors.

The Council sponsors such activities as:

  • Information meetings about study abroad opportunities.
  • Educational events, such as, a campus film series, guest lectures, and a tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery.
  • A student trip to the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion and, if there is sufficient interest, to the American Philological Association.
  • Student-parent-faculty receptions to be held during family weekend and graduation weekend.
  • Annual student-faculty softball game and picnic.
  • A senior dinner at the end of the second semester, for students and faculty members.
  • Design and sale of official Department T-shirts.
