The flag of Sudan

The Sudan, located in eastern Africa, is the largest country in Africa. It is bordered on the north by Egypt, on the west by Libya, Chad, and the Central African Republic, on the south by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Kenya, and on the east by Ethiopia, Eritrea, and the Red Sea. Its capital is Khartoum. The Blue Nile and the White Nile run through the country until Khartoum, where they merge into the Nile and continue towards Egypt and the Mediterranian Sea.

The northern part of the country is arid and the southern part is tropical. A rainy season occurs from April to October. Sudan is generally a flat country, with the exception of some mountains in the east and west.

Sudan has a total land area of 2,505,810 square kilometers. Only 5% of that is arable land. 24% is used for meadows and pastures, and 20% is woodland.

An estimated 30,120,420 people live in Sudan. The population growth rate is 2.35%.

The current head of state is 'Umar Hasan Ahmad al-Bashir. He has been in power since October 1993.

The currency of Sudan is the Sudanese Pound.
