Abstract:
Corning is one of the leading manufacturers of optical fiber and optical fiber system components in the world. With increasing pace of the communication market it is becoming increasingly difficult to try new ideas in the laboratory with all possible parameter combinations. Consequently, modeling and simulation is extensively used at Corning to do (1) parameter studies; (2) initial design; (3) process improvements; and (4) innovate new products. In this presentation I will try to touch on each of the above applications of computer modeling and simulation and show some examples.
