Abstract:
Experiments during the past two years at JILA on oscillations in
two-component BEC have been difficult to interpret, and a number of
theoretical attempts have been made. We have developed a new model of BEC
dynamics based on strong confinement near the ground state that predicts
oscillations, based on interference of non-spreading wave packets moving
freely within a pair of tilted nearly square potentials. The packet
oscillations give remarkably good agreement with the experiments and
extensions to multi-component condensates are planned.
