DAN 216
Yoga & Experiential Anatomy
Credit—2 hours

Instructor:
Cook, J.

In this course we will study the anatomical systems of the human body through the practice of yoga asanas (postures). As we delve experientially into bones, muscles, organs, nervous system, fluid and connective tissues we bring a deeper awareness, refinement and clarity to the exploration of the yoga asanas as well as to our daily functional movement and other movement practices. We discover that the asanas become an expression of our internal experience rather than a form we impose upon the body. Awareness of our own living anatomy offers us support for our movement and opens up rich and subtle possibilities for self expression. A variety of approaches to learning will be used including movement, discussion, journaling, reading, coloring anatomical drawings and individual and partner hands on work. We will use The Anatomy Coloring Book by Kapit and Elson.
