The objective of the course is to give students an experience in West African dance. We will both dance and research the historical development of performing and cultural arts in post-colonial Ghana and Guinea. These cultural practices stem from a rich history pertaining to environment, identity, and cross-cultural perspectives. Aesthetic qualities of African Dance will be explored through video, readings, and performance. This course will culminate in a final departmental showing that will be choreographed during class.
