The Maria Gillard Band

Lecture/Demonstration/Performance
February 10, 2006

THE MARIA GILLARD BAND will perform at the University of Rochester on Friday, February 10th from 8-10. The first section of the performance will consist of a lecture demonstration covering the history of the band, their influences, how they arrange songs, transposition and songwriting. Each member of this band has had years of experience with many styles of music, which is why it works so well. These different styles will be performed and shared with the audience. Audience members will be encouraged to ask questions throughout the demonstration. The second half will be devoted to dancing. Maria Gillard Band really swings so it will be exciting and energetic, and just the right thing for a cold Friday night in February.

THE MARIA GILLARD BAND has the class of a 50's sports car, the luxury interior of a Rolls Royce and swings like 40's Ford Coupe!
Maria Gillard, regional favorite among folk and acoustic fans has branched out into swing, blues and jazz standards. She engages her audience whole-heartedly as she moves from a Ray Charles tune to Ella Fitzgerald to John Prine to her own sophisticated compositions. With the expertise of piano meister Charles Jaffe, musical chameleon Mick Sarubbi on bass, and Pete Monacelli, drummer for the great blues band, The King Bees, this band really cooks. These veteran musicians play every other Sunday night at the Little Theatre café and keep the place hopping!
