Youssouf Koumbassa

Film Documentary Presentation
April 6 , 2006

Join us for a screening of Landouma Fare, a documentary that features Youssouf’s personal journey back to his father’s village to learn more about the dances of his father’s people, the Landouma. In his presentations, Youssouf seeks to deepen the knowledge he has been able to impart in his classes and will discuss topics such as the way in which the
national company toured Guinea collecting dances, music and stories from the various ethnic groups, learning the specific movements and adapting them to the flamboyant style of the ballet and the stage.
Youssouf Koumbassa is a former principal dancer with Ballet Djoliba, the National Ballet Company of Guinea. He spent thirteen years with the company, and then moved to the United States where he has become the most sought after teacher of African Dance in the country. He has taught here and around the world for over twenty years.
