Global Dance Film Screening

A free two evening series of dance film works selected from Dance Films Association’s Annual Dance on Camera Festival at Lincoln Center

    Director: Luli Barzman, France, 2004; 32 min

    An engrossing portrait of choreographer and dancer, Faustin Linyekula.  Included are excerpts of his newest works in which he explores his African/French heritage and identity through movement.  In French with English subtitles.

    Seasons of Migration 

    Director:John Bishop, USA, 2006, 56m

    In this memorable documentary, award-winning choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro incorporates the exquisite, highly stylized classical dances of Cambodia with original music, lyrics, and choreography.  The result is a true miracle of a dance which explores culture shock and the transformation of identity experienced by immigrants, and offers insight into both Cambodian and American cultures.

    Bahudha

    Bahudha is part of a series of Kathak duets interacting with other art forms.  In this rhythmic, colorful short, the two dancers create a second duet by mixing live performance with projected images of themselves.

    Movement (R)evolution Africa

    Director:  Joan Frosch & Alla Kovgan, USA, 2006, 65m

    Stunning choreography and riveting interviews challenge stale stereotypes of “traditional Africa” in this unforgettable documentary.   Through the  soul-shaking responses and works of eight African choreographers, a portrait of 21st century Africa, beautiful and tragic, is unveiled.
