Jarold Ramsey's research interests focus on American Indian literature, Shakespeare, and modern poetry; his own poetry hearkens to folklore and the energies of colloquial speech.
Taught at the University of Washington and the University of Victoria (Canada). Author of The Space between Us, Love in an Earthquake, Dermographia, and Hand-Shadows (poems), Coyote Goes Upriver (play), The Lodge of Shadows (cantata, with Samuel Adler); editor and compiler of Coyote Was Going There: Indian Literature of the Oregon Country and The Stories We Tell: An Anthology of Oregon Folk Literature (with Suzi Jones); poems in The Atlantic, The Nation, Quarterly Review of Literature, Christian Science Monitor, etc.; articles on Shakespeare, modern poetry, American Indian literature, and narrative theory. Co-founder, University of Rochester's Writers Workshop, University of Rochester's Storytelling Conference.
