Moritz von Stuelpnagel

Moritz von Stuelpnagel lives in New York City where he has directed such plays as: The Most Lamentable & Tragical Historie of the Barber-Surgeons and friendly fire (Studio-42); As You Like It and Two Gentlemen of Verona (poortom productions); Susan Gets Some Play, Gamelegs, and Melo-Llama: A Melodrama (FringeNYC); The Roosevelt Cousins Thoroughly Sauced (Ensemble Studio Theatre/winner of the Sam French Festival); Stars in her Eyes (Ars Nova and Brick Theater); tell her that (Vital Theatre); audio video (Drama League); Four Dogs and a Bone (Linhart Theatre); Burning Down to Heaven (Culture Project); Kirby (Manhattan Theatre Source); In Perpetuity Throughout the Universe (Pantheon); Out to Dinner (Chashama); La Dispute (45th St. Theatre); and (Meeting (Exes) Meeting) (HERE).  Regionally, Moritz has directed productions for the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Kennedy Center, American Stage Festival, the Red Barn of Key West, and Boston Playwrights Theatre.  He is a member of Ars Nova’s community of artists and a frequent collaborator with Youngblood, the playwrights collective at Ensemble Studio Theatre.  He teaches Acting Shakespeare at One-on-One Productions, and has been a guest director at close to a dozen universities, including Juilliard, Boston University, Fordham, and Connecticut College.  Moritz was also the associate director for Broadway’s Tony-nominated Cry-Baby, the musical.  He has served as an Assistant Director to Mark Brokaw, Nicholas Martin, Anna D. Shapiro, Dominic Cooke, Marion McClinton, Kate Whoriskey, David Petrarca, Darko Tresnjak, Michael John Garcés, Chris Shinn, and others.  He has been a Resident Director at Playwrights Horizons, The Acting Company, and the Huntington Theatre Company.  In 2005, Moritz received a Drama League Directing Fellowship, and in 2007, he received the Boris Sagal Fellowship at Williamstown.
