- all bi-weekly afterschool programs
- summer enrichment program
- one-on-one counselor meetings in schools
- Senior Saturdays
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT FROM UPWARD BOUND CLASSIC
Services:
- Intense PSAT/ SAT/ ACT preparation
- Visiting local colleges and universities
- Six week Summer Enrichment Program
- College and financial aid application assistance
- Stipends for summer participants
WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW
- All applicants will be called for a mandatory student-parent interview prior to being selected.
- If your child is selected to participate, Upward Bound staff will assist you and your child through the process of preparing for and applying to college, including financial aid.
- Work hard to ensure that your child receives appropriate enrichment, counseling, and academic services.
- We consider parent involvement as a key to the success of our program and will expect to be in frequent contact with you about your child’s schoolwork and participation in program activities.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to be eligible, applicants must:
- Be enrolled at Thomas Jefferson High School
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Be a potential first-generation college student (neither parent has a 4 year college degree) OR low-income according to federal guidelines, which are available on our website and in the application packet
HOW TO APPLY
Step one: Pick up an application from your school counselor
Step two: Ask your counselor or teacher to complete a recommendation
Step three: Complete the student part of the application (STUDENT ESSAY)
Step four: Have your parent or guardian complete the parent /guardian section and sign
Step five: Bring the completed application back to your counselor or send it directly to Upward Bound program office.
