Description: We are recruiting students for Summer 2012 and Fall 2012.

The Mt. Hope Family Center is looking for students interested in a volunteer opportunity to assist with a study on the effects of maternal depression on child adaptation in a high risk population. Responsibilities include data entry and verification, coding EEG sessions and other data organization tasks. Candidates must be able to work independently and exhibit great attention to detail. Experience with Microsoft Access databases, Word and Excel is preferred. Flexible schedule (10-20 hours per week). This opportunity would be ideal for someone who is looking to gain experience in the data management aspect of the research process.

Department: Project Train: Families on Track
Topic: fetal alcohol spectrum disorders
Description: Position Summary

Project Train: Families on Track is currently seeking a Research Assistant to work closely with the Principal Investigator in designing and implementing a randomized controlled trial of a preventive intervention for children (ages 4 to 8) with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and their families. The Research Assistant will receive training in quantitative and qualitative research methods, the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure on development, and intervention design and evaluation.

Primary responsibilities for the Research Assistant position include 1) preparing and organizing intervention and assessment materials, 2) tracking and scheduling research visits with families, 3) collecting observational, interview, and neuropsychological research data, and 4) coding, organizing, and entering data. The Research Assistant may also help with literature reviews and manuscript preparation.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an Associate\'s degree (prefer a Bachelor\'s degree) in Psychology, Child Development or related field plus 2-3 years specialized experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position is ideal for a recent graduate looking for research experience to be competitive in graduate school admissions.

The Research Assistant position requires flexible scheduling, and some evenings and weekends may be required depending on participant availability. Study participants will be recruited in Rochester and Buffalo areas and some occasional travel may be necessary. Applicants must have a clean, valid driver\'s license and own a reliable means of transportation.

Position Start Date and Duration

The anticipated start date for the Research Assistant position is mid-July 2012. Applicants are asked to make a 2-year commitment to the project.
