Third Thursdays at the Memorial Art Gallery presents their last concert of the season with Innominatum, an Eastman-based early music ensemble, joined by Eastman DMA candidate Caroline Robinson on harpsichord and organ. Together they will perform a collection of seventeenth-century sonatas for quintet from the major countries of Western Europe, with music by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Jean-Marie Leclair (France); Johann Michael Nicolai and Johannes Rosenmüller (Germany); Antoni Bertali (Italy); and John Jenkins (England). The concert will take place
Thursday, May 16th, at 7:30pm in the Memorial Art Gallery Fountain Court.

Innominatum is an eclectic ensemble focused on historical performance of 17th and 18th century string repertoire. The ensemble was formed at the Eastman School of Music in 2018 by Ryan Cheng (baroque violin, tenor viol, bass viol), Lydia Becker (baroque violin), Adrienne Hyde (bass viol, baroque cello), Charlie Reed (treble viol, bass viol), and Alice Chuaqui Baldwin (continuo). The quintet are core members of the Eastman Collegium Musicum program, and are actively engaged in the North American early music scene, having performed at American Bach Soloists, the Tafelmusik Winter Institute, and the Boston Early Music Festival Fringe Concert Series. Replacing Alice Chuaqui Baldwin for this concert will be Caroline Robinson, a doctoral candidatein the studio of David Higgs at the Eastman School of Music and an award-winning solo recitalist.

The Third Thursday concert series provides musicians and music-lovers the opportunity to experience authentic Baroque music on a regular basis. Its concerts highlight Eastman’s Italian Baroque Organ, which was built around 1770 in central Italy. Restored and installed in 2005 at the Memorial Art Gallery, the instrument is the only one of its kind in North America. The organ’s beautiful, authentic sounds have been heard by thousands of visitors who attend weekly Sunday mini-recitals and special “Third Thursday” concerts by internationally celebrated guest artists and Eastman musicians.

Admission to the concert is included with Gallery admission, which is half-price on Thursday evenings after 5pm and free to University of Rochester student ID holders. This concert is made possible by the Rippey Endowed Trust.

The next Third Thursday concert will take place on October 17, 2019. It will present a program of harpsichord music and baroque dance.
