Event Description

Born in Taiwan in 1997, I-Hsiang Chao is currently pursuing a B.M. degree in piano performance and in composition in Eastman School of Music. Important mentors in Eastman include Douglas Humpherys and Vincent Lenti in piano performance, and Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, David Liptak, and Robert Morris in composition. He also studied with Hung-Kuan Chen in the Aspen Music Festival and School in 2018. An avid new music collaborator, he participated extensively in Musica Nova and in OSSIA, including Kate Soper’s world premiere of her Missing Scenes: The Winter’s Tale. His musical survey centers particularly on music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Webern, Nono, Liza Lim and Mark Andre. Current extra-musical obsessions include works by Dostoevsky, Rilke, Mann, Klee, Miró and Andrei Tarkovsky.
