As the University seeks to grow interdisciplinary programs, improve decision making, and find new efficiencies, there is an increased demand from faculty and staff for quick, easy, and flexible access to information. This led to the development of the University’s Data Warehouse - a solution that allows for the maintenance of historical information optimized for reporting. The vision is to promote a central reporting system that is easy to use and supports business decisions using historical information from across many areas of the University.
The original University of Rochester Data Warehouse was developed in the early 1990s using the Focus reporting tool. In the late 1990s it was replaced by Impromptu, a client server reporting tool. Impromptu is still in use today, but is in the process of being replaced by a more modern, web-based architecture. Cognos 10 is the newest release of reporting software for the Data Warehouse and is now available for use with the Finance, Student, Advancement, CumSal, Accounts Payable, Space and Grant data families.
