Patron Guidelines

All University IT computing facilities are open to University of Rochester students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Patrons are requested to comply with all of the following guidelines as well as the standards of ethics and conduct in the use of any University IT facilities. Responsible patron behavior includes consideration for other users, as well as efficient use of computing resources.

  • A NetID credential is required to log in to public computers
    More information about NetID is available at myidentity.rochester.edu.
  • Bring your University ID
    Be prepared to show your University of Rochester ID upon request.
  • Do not copy software
    Violation of this policy is a federal offense.
  • Do not modify any hardware, software, or system configurations on any machine.
    Please ask a consultant for assistance if you find a problem; do not attempt to fix it yourself.
  • Keep noise levels to a minimum
    Please study quietly in a group and respect others around you. Headphones are required when listening to music and for any computer applications that use sound.
  • Use computers for academic, non-profit purposes only
    Please do not use University software for non-University, business-related work.
  • Respect reserved class times
    Note the posted list of times that any room is reserved for classes. Schedules will be posted on classroom doors, or you can call x5-2000 to check.
  • Respect facility hours
    Be prepared to leave the facilities promptly at closing time; the staff is not authorized to keep the facilities open any later than posted. Begin printing 15 minutes prior to closing.
  • Do not bring animals
    Service animals are the only animals allowed in University IT facilities.
  • Do not rollerblade, bike, or ride a scooter
    Rollerblades must be removed upon entering any facility. Bicycles and scooters, per University policy, are also not allowed.
  • Do not leave children unattended
    Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Check Lost & Found for misplaced items

For more information regarding any of these policies, ask to speak to a manager or supervisor. These guidelines are for your benefit and will help University IT to better serve your studying and computing needs.
