University IT recommends a variety of standard software packages, identified further
down the page. Use of these operating systems and applications will ensure
you the most interoperability, fewer problems, and better support. The University
and Hospital comprise a diverse environment with many needs specific to the
individual department.
Some software products have requirements that are not met by your environment
or computer system. In addition, some products may conflict with others when
run on the same workstation. Your Computer Administrator or IT department
should be consulted before purchasing any hardware or software.
These recommendations are for those departments supported by University IT. Other local IT service providers may have different advice. Please contact your local IT support provider if you have any questions about this recommendation.
Support
The University provides a Support Staff who are familiar with the
installation, varying levels of use and troubleshooting of these packages.
In many cases they have attended training sessions themselves in order
to provide a quality service. Beyond the software identified below,
a "best effort" assistance
effort will be made. Please understand that if we are not familiar and
trained in a particular software application, the time spent on problem
resolution may be limited, and issues may take longer to resolve, or
not be able to be resolved at all. We can not fully support products
that are deemed obsolete by the original manufacturer or are used beyond
their original purpose and design.
