June 2009
Business Managers and Department Administrators:
Given the current operating budget reduction proposals, University IT worked with a group of administrators and users to develop recommendations for controlling IT costs. Several of the cost containment strategies are specific to cellular services, printed monthly IT statements, and the printed Faculty Staff / Directory.
As of April 1st we restricted the ability to download music and ringtones on cellular devices, restricted text messaging on new devices unless business related, and are currently working on limiting the cost of new equipment ordered to $99 for voice and $149 for data devices.
Our next initiative is to eliminate the printed monthly IT/Networking & Communications statements; the last month we will print statements is June, 2009. We will be offering several auditing classes to assist departments with this transition.
University IT personnel will guide you through the process of checking your department's telecommunication statements online, demonstrating how to audit your own ledgers without the use of paper statements. As an authorized user, you will be able to view the previous 6 months of history, download statements in PDF or Excel format, and audit your ledger activity according to your schedule.
What you need to do:
1. Fill out the Network and Communications Data Access Authorization Form at http://www.rochester.edu/its/ncs/documentation/documentation.html. Specify all ledgers to which you require access, have the form signed by the Department Head or Chair, and submit it to University IT by mail to PO Box 278937 or via fax to 275-0452. Please submit the data access authorization form prior to attending the class. If you already have access, submitting an additional form is not necessary.
2. Contact University IT to sign up for a Online Telecommunications Ledger Auditing training session.
