Style

All page publishers are encouraged to adhere to on-line editorial guidelines for clarity and style. (See also Required Elements and University of Rochester Guidelines [temporarily off line].)

Compatibility

All page publishers are encouraged to think about loading time and compatibility with various Web browsers.

Generally the use of frames is not recommended as they prevent search services from indexing your site. Indexing is generally important for most university sites. It is how users find your site. If searching is not desired, frames may be an effective solution.

Frames are difficult to bring into ADA compliance. While the most recent screen readers can navigate frame sets, they must be set up correctly. Contact the university Webmaster for clarification if needed.

Current data on what browsers and versions are used to access on campus web sites is available at the university Web reports site .
