Office of Research and Project AdministrationAs you may know, on June 1, 2006, we will begin, in earnest, the electronic submission of NIH grants; all R-21 and R-03 applications must be submitted through Grants.gov. (http://www.grants.gov ) We have assembled some helpful information for you to review in preparation of this "big" event. One of the attachments is a bullet point synopsis of the SF 424 (R&R) application guide instructions. The full announcement can be obtained by clicking on the link below. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/424/index.htm I have also included 2 budgeting tools: one is a spreadsheet that will assist in computing person months from two different perspectives (i.e., full time appointments and part time appointments) and the second one is a modified 398 budget form page that will also do the calculating for you - depending on the type of appointment (i.e., calendar (12 months), academic (9 months), and summer salary (i.e. 3 months). This is NOT the revised interim 4/2006 PHS Form page 4 or 5 - so it should NOT be submitted to NIH - this is just a tool. The last attachment, is a completed example of the "face page" of the Grant Application Packet for the R-21 Parent grant FOA PA-06-181, the SF 424 (R&R), and the PHS 398 Cover Page Supplement to assist you in preparing these forms. We will be issuing another ORPA-L announcement when we get the computer rooms scheduled for the on-hands workshops for the SF424 electronic submissions. We hope to have this information out to you within the next week. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your ORPA RA.
